Welcome to the Class page for year 5.
Year 5F is taught by Mrs Sarah-Jane Faulkner
Year 5SH is taught by Mrs Sacha Strand and Mrs T Harris.
Year 5’s topic this term is ‘Stand and Deliver’. Children have been learning about Robin Hood, Sherwood Forest, Nottingham and other counties of England. We enjoyed a ‘Stunning Start’ making willow canopies, corn dollies and having a go at rag-rugging. More recently, we have been learning about highwaymen, in particular Dick Turpin, and using our computing skills to research key facts about his life.
This term, Year 5 has been lucky enough to go to Forest School with Mr Gillinder and learn skills such as: fire lighting, den building, trebuchet making and using hand tools to carve wood. We have also been studying Andy Goldsworthy’s art and children have recreated their own masterpieces in the woods. At Forest School, children always look forward to hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows over the fire.
Year 5 classes have the opportunity to choose independent learning activities once a week. These activities are set up so that children can collect their own resources, follow instructions accurately and work independently. Activities often relate to the following curriculum subjects: Art and Design, Music, Geography, History and Drama.
Year 5 & 6 are currently busy learning a plethora of songs and dance actions for their trip to the ‘Young Voices’ concert at the O2 Arena in January. We are really looking forward to being part of such an amazing event!
